Danvers, MA — There was a work-related accident reported at the Big Lots store in Danvers earlier this month (Friday, October 2, 2015) that injured the assistant manager. Authorities said that the assistant manager of the store was in the stockroom when piles of boxes suddenly came tumbling down, crashing onto him.
Allegedly, some of the boxes weighed over 50 pounds.
The assistant manager was hurt and had to be taken to the hospital to be treated. Later, OSHA came to investigate the store and they are now fining Big Lots $66,000 for their carelessness. OSHA apparently found in their investigation that the stockroom had stacks of boxes that were unsafe, as well as other boxes, equipment, and debris that were clogging the aisles.
The assistant manager’s condition hasn’t been released.
According to the reports by OSHA, Big Lots has been cited for similar workplace safety violations in 2014 at stores in New York and Georgia.
