Nai Min Chang Injured in Norwalk, NJ I-95 Bus Crash

Norwalk, CT — A woman from New York was one of 42 passengers on a large charter bus that crashed into the back of a semi-truck on I-95, according to some recent news reports. It looks like tour bus driver Henry Woolfson, 31, was killed on Wednesday of last week (October 7, 2015) after his tour bus rear-ended a semi-truck on I-95 near Exit 14.

There were 42 passengers on the bus at the time, but 64-year old Nai Min Chang was the only one who appeared to have any injuries.

The accident took place in the center, southbound lanes of I-95, and Mr. Woolfson was driving the group on the tour bus from Boston to New York. He was driving for RC Travelays, which is based in Florida.

It’s not clear yet why Woolfson’s bus rear-ended the semi-truck, but that’s still under investigation, we’re told.

Commentary:

The news reports mentioned the name RC Travelways and said that they didn’t have any crashes or accidents reported in the last 24 months. Well, I did some checking with the DOT’s records to confirm that. While it turns out that is the truth, it’s not exactly the whole truth. As it turns out, this company has actually been flagged by the DOT for having too many “Hours of Service” violations, including one where a driver was cited for going 15 hours without taking a break. And they were carrying passengers at the time as well.

That’s a little bit alarming, I must admit, and it makes me wonder what really caused this accident in Connecticut. Was the driver paying attention to the road? Did he doze off behind the wheel? I realize that he didn’t mean to cause this wreck, but the fact of the matter is that a lot of lives were put in danger, and at least one person was hurt. If this accident was caused by negligence, then the company that owns this bus needs to step up and take responsibility.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
