Trevor Robben Injured in Rialto, CA Accident, Nissan Brake Failure Alleged

Rialto, CA — A man driving a 2009 Nissan Frontier pickup truck says that he was injured after his cruise control was stuck and he wasn’t able to brake. Trevor Robben, 29, was identified as the driver of the truck and this “incident” happened on Sunday, September 20, 2015.

Robben was reportedly driving his Nissan truck east along the 210 Freeway at about 1:45 p.m. that Sunday afternoon when he called 911, telling them that his truck’s cruise control was stuck.

He drove until he reached Lilac Avenue, where his truck eventually lost control and hit a dirt embankment and flipped over, crashing.

Robben was actually thrown from his truck and had to be taken to a hospital for his injuries, though he is in good condition now. The CHP did a preliminary inspection of the Nissan truck, but didn’t find any evidence of a brake failure or any other issues.

Commentary:

I’m not aware of any current recalls for Nissan Frontier brakes or brake components, but that doesn’t mean something wasn’t seriously wrong here. Of course, as with all accidents, there’s a chance that this was caused by user error. However, I’ve handled enough of these kinds of accidents and seen enough screw-ups by the auto industry (just take the current Volvo scandal, for crying out loud) to give this man the benefit of the doubt when he says his brakes were stuck.

The first step is to have an investigation done by a professional group that can tell you whether the brakes were faulty or if a part had perhaps malfunctioned that day. If that’s the case, then this needs to be brought to Nissan’s attention so they can fix any problems and keep other people from danger.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
