Asheville, NC – An unidentified truck driver and David Christoper, aged 61, were injured Tuesday afternoon in a suspected DUI accident on I-26 near Airport Rd, in Asheville, NC.
It looks like the accident happened sometime after 1:30 p.m. David Christopher was driving and reportedly tried to pass a vehicle on the grass median. When he re-entered the road, his car caught the trailer of an 18-wheeler, causing both the truck and Mr. Christopher’s vehicle to go off the road. The truck tipped over on its side in the process. The truck driver suffered unspecified injuries in the accident, while Mr. Christopher was critically injured and taken to Mission Memorial Hospital in Asheville.
Mr. Christopher is suspected of being intoxicated at the time of the accident and has been charged with DWI, as well as reckless driving. News outlets are reporting that Mr. Christopher has a prior alcohol-related driving infraction.
