Big Sandy, TX: Aarons Furniture Truck Hits School Bus, 2 Hurt

Big Sandy, Texas — On Tuesday afternoon of this week, there was an accident out near Big Sandy that involved a Big Sandy ISD school bus and an Aaron Brothers semi-truck. This happened on Highway 80 and two students were injured as a result.

The accident happened at about 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon, September 15, 2015.

Police said that an Aaron Brothers furniture truck was headed along Highway 80 when it came upon a school bus that was stopped in the lane ahead, dropping off students.

The semi-truck failed to brake in time, for whatever reason, and crashed into the back of the bus. Of the students aboard, only two complained of injuries and were taken to a hospital. Their injuries were not serious, however.

It’s not clear if the DPS cited the trucker at all.

Commentary:

I know of an Aaron Brothers art & framing business here in Dallas, but I don’t know if this is the same company. Regardless, this was a professional truck driver who presumably had his CDL and plenty of training. So what, then, would cause him to rear-end a bright yellow school bus? Daylight and weather weren’t an issue, so I’m wondering what in the world went wrong here?

It’s a good thing that this accident wasn’t more serious, but this trucker should still have to answer for his mistake here. In fact, it may be that his employer has to bear the liability, since they are going to be responsible for their employee getting into an accident with a company-owned vehicle.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
