Herbert Ross Injured in Sparta, NJ Workplace Accident


Sparta, NJ – Sometime after 9 a.m. Thursday, Herbert Ross was injured by a shifting tree limb in Sparta, NJ at a residence on Hilltop Trail.

Ross, an employee of Sparta Tree Service was on a deck at a home when a tree limb shifted and knocked him off the deck. Mr. Ross fell 12 ft. First-responders reported that Mr. Ross was conscious and talking when they arrived. However, his injuries were severe enough to necessitate a helicopter evacuation to nearby Morristown Medical Center. The most recent reports list Mr. Ross’s condition as fair.

Mr. Ross was apparently part of a crew called to the home to remove a sizable tree limb. It is reported that the limb shifted as the crew was cutting it up.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
