Angela Shelton Injured in Benton County, Iowa Car Crash


Benton County, IA – Angela Jean Shelton was injured in a two-vehicle collision along Highway 218 on Tuesday, September 1st, 2015.

35-year-old Shelton was driving a 2002 Dodge Caravan Van southbound on 218 when she allegedly failed to observe stopped traffic at a construction zone. Her vehicle then struck into the back of 2007 Freightliner flatbed semi. Shelton’s vehicle went partially beneath the semi-trailer and struck a fork lift mounted on the back.

The truck was driven by 47-year-old Delbert William Meeks.

Shelton was flow to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinic for treatment of her injures.

There were no other injuries reported.

At this time, we’re not sure of the specifics leading up to the accident. This incident is still under investigation. There’s been no mention of excesive speed or mechanical malfunction in connection with this accident.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
