11 Year-Old Injured in Mohawk River Boat Accident in New York

Niskayuna, NY – Friday, August 28th, an 11-year old girl was injured in a Mohawk River boating accident.

It looks like around 11:20 a.m. the girl fell out of a motor boat and was struck by the same boat. Sources say the accident most likely occurred because the boat was loaded beyond its recommended capacity. Indications are that when the boat went to slow down, the excess weight submerged the front part of the boat and ejected as many as 5 people from the boat.

The girl was treated both on-site and at an Albany hospital for lacerations. There is no indication as to the severity of her injuries.

The driver of the boat, William Lore, was cited for misdemeanor reckless operation of a vessel. The same reports indicate that the man’s boat, a 1997 Polar skiff is rated for up to 4 people or 485 lbs. It appears that Mr. Lore had at least 2 people too many on his vessel, based on published accounts.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
