South Bend, IN – Around 6 a.m. Wednesday morning, a road construction worker was injured when a school bus hit the sign he was setting up in South Bend, IN.
The unidentified worker, an employee of Area Wide Protective, was setting up an electric sign around daybreak, when a school bus driver hit the sign, knocking it into the road worker. The accident happened on Bendix Drive near Redwing drive.
The road worker, who is expected to survive, sustained serious, but non-life threatening injuries. The exact nature of the injuries is a matter of some dispute, as some reports suggest he was cut and bruised, while others state that the man also had broken ribs. The worker should have been visible in the poor light as witnesses say he was wearing a reflective vest.
Neither the name of the road worker or the bus driver have been released at this time and police continue to investigate. There are no reports of children being on the bus at the time of the accident.
