NJ Transit Bus Crashes into Cars at Dealership, 7 People Injured

Jersey City, NJ — There were at least seven people injured on Tuesday morning of this week, August 18, 2015 after the NJ Transit bus they were riding was involved in a major wreck.

This happened in Jersey City at about 9:00 a.m. in the morning.

A large NJ Transit bus was driving down Communipaw Avenue when it suddenly crashed into another car. The bus driver lost control and swerved off the side of the road, crashing into several parked cars at the local Hudson Subaru auto dealership.

Twelve people were on the bus at the time and only seven reported having injuries — four women and three men. None of the injuries were believed to be serious, however. Right now, it’s not clear who caused the accident or whether any charges will be filed.

Commentary:

In accident where a large bus ends up injuring several folks, things can get a little complicated. Ultimately, whoever was at fault in the accident needs to step up, take responsibility, and make things right with anyone who was hurt. But when multiple victims are involved, whatever insurance policy a normal driver carries will likely be spread pretty thin.

If the bus was the one at fault in the wreck, then it’s a different story. Obviously, these companies have insurance policies that are adequate for taking care of injured passengers, but the problem is that insurance companies don’t exactly like paying out on claims. It’s the same story that you’re probably familiar with from interactions with Allstate or Geico, for example. A driver causes an accident but their insurance company wants to contest things to try and save a little money.

For bus and transportation companies, there’s quite a bit more on the line (financially speaking), so these insurance companies are highly motivated to pass blame for the accident on to someone else.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
