Port Charlotte, SC — A woman named Alexandrea Marie was taken to a hospital with critical injuries last month after she was in an accident that was supposedly caused by a drunk driver. Police said that Alexandrea Marie was a passenger in a car driven by 23-year old James Ayuso when they were hit by a suspected drunk driver on Sunday morning, July 12, 2015.
This was in Port Charlotte at the intersection of Tamiamia Trail and Midway Boulevard.
The police said that it was almost 1:00 a.m. that morning when Ayuso and Alexandrea Marie were headed along Tamiamia Trail/US 41 in his Volkswagen Jetta. As they tried to turn onto Midway Boulevard, they were T-boned by a Ford pickup truck driven by 32-year old John Stetina.
Stetina had been driving the opposite direction on Tamiami Trail, it seems, and ran a red light before hitting them.
While Alexandrea Marie was badly injured and taken to a hospital in critical condition, Stetina and Ayuso were not seriously hurt.
The police, however, later arrested Mr. Stetina for DUI with serious bodily injuries, DUI refusal, and other offenses.
