Madison, WI — A construction worker was killed late Monday morning of this week in the downtown area of Madison while he was working on a new apartment building complex. The man was identified as Chris Lord, 25 years old, and he was a carpenter.
Lord was about 60 feet above the ground on Monday morning and was installing wooden trusses to support the rafters of building when an accident happened.
Lord fell to the ground around 11:00 a.m. that morning and was badly injured. He was taken to a hospital, but later died from his injuries. At the time of the accident, it appears Chris Lord was working for McGann Construction.
The name of the up-and-coming apartment complex will be Capitol’s Edge Apartments.

Commentary:
After doing a little research into the company this worker was employed by, I found that they’ve been investigated a few times by OSHA over the past several years. What’s interesting is that in 2011, it appears that OSHA cited McGann for “aerial lift” violations, and it was described as a “serious” violation. What does that mean? Well, the reports don’t say what the citation was for, specifically, but I found it interesting that this company has had a previous run-in with OSHA regarding height-related accidents.
If someone were to take a close look at this, would they find that this carpenter wasn’t properly secured while he was working? Was he even given safety gear at all? You would think that after some fines by OSHA, a company would have the sense to straighten things out — but that’s not always the case.
I would be very curious to learn more about what happened here.
