Chico, CA — The driver of a cement truck was hospitalized after his vehicle rolled over in Chico, California, on Thursday, July 30, 2015.
The accident took place on Highway 99, near the exit to Highway 32. The truck reportedly hit a guardrail before rolling. The driver was the only one injured in the accident.
The cause of the accident is still being investigated, although officials have said that it’s possible the truck suffered from some sort of mechanical failure, causing one of the truck’s front tires to separate from the vehicle.
The investigation into the accident continues.

A tire separating from a vehicle sounds like a pretty big mechanical failure to me. So when investigators say that may have contributed to the accident, well, I think they’re on to something. Obviously, anytime an accident like this happens, the vehicle is going to be gone over with a fine-tooth comb. The cause of the accident is going to have a big effect on how the accident is handled going forward. Sometimes, trucking companies neglect the repair work that needs to be done to their vehicles. When that happens, liability may fall on them. Other times, the vehicle is suffering from some sort of defect that puts liability on the manufacturer. There are several possibilities, so the importance of that investigation really can’t be overstated.
