Accident with Semi-Truck in Iron River, WI, Sends Three to Hospital

Iron River, WI — Three people were hospitalized in an accident involving a semi-truck in Iron River, Wisconsin, on Thursday, July 30, 2015. The accident took place on Highway, around 1:30 in the afternoon.

Local sources say that Sue Beard was headed west in a Toyota Tundra when she crossed the road’s center lines and struck the rear wheels of an eastbound semi-truck hauling pulp. The crash sent Beard’s vehicle underneath the truck’s tires before she drove off the road and came to a stop in a ditch.

Beard and Robert Storm, a passenger inside her vehicle, were taken to St. Luke’s Hospital for treatment. David Bouillion, the driver of the 18-wheeler, was taken to a nearby hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

The reason for the accident is currently being investigated.

In most cases, an employer will have a workers’ comp policy that will pay out benefits to the victims of accidents like this. So while employees are free to pursue workers’ comp claims whenever they’re injured in an on-the-job accident, they’re also able to pursue an injury claim against those who caused the accident, provided it was caused by a third party (workers’ comp law prohibits employees from filing claims against their employers in almost all instances). Both of these claims can be pursued at the same time, and one won’t have any detrimental effect on the other. While the accident may have been caused by an individual the victim didn’t work with, the accident still happened on the job, making the victim eligible for those workers’ comp benefits.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
