Longview, TX — A police officer was hospitalized after being injured in an accident that took place as he was responding to an emergency call on Tuesday, July 21, 2015.
The man hurt in the crash was identified as Officer Rodney Smith. Reports say that Smith was traveling along West Cotton Street and entered the intersection with Lake View Road. That’s when he crashed into a vehicle that failed to yield the right of way. That vehicle was being driven by John Fruge.
Witnesses to the accident report seeing emergency workers bandaging Smith’s arm before being taken to a local hospital. Fruge was ticketed for failing to yield.
The accident is still being investigated.
