Miller County, MO — There was an accident along U.S. Highway 87 north of Eldon this past Friday, July 3, that left a man from Olean with serious injuries, as well as a woman from Columbia. Police with the MSHP said that Ralph Zigler, 40, and Ruth Flippin, 29, were both hurt after their cars were in a head-on wreck on Friday afternoon.
The way the accident report reads, it appears that Ralph Zigler was driving his Jeep south along U.S. 87 that afternoon at about 2:30 p.m. while Ruth Flippin’s Ford Focus was headed north.
As they neared Boulder Road, U.S. 87 started to curve quite a bit, which is where Flippin’s car swerved into oncoming traffic and crashed head-on into Zigler’s Jeep.
The impact left both with serious injuries and they were taken to different hospitals. Right now, it’s not clear why Mrs. Flippin’s car didn’t maintain its lane, but the MSHP troopers said they’d keep investigating and post any new details they uncovered.
