San Antonio, TX — There was an accident reported along W.W. White Road in San Antonio, TX that’s left a young man in his 20’s with major injuries. The accident happened at about 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 5, at the intersection with Lavender Lane.
A young man was reportedly trying to cross W.W. White Road to get to a convenience store, the news said, when a passing Dodge Durango SUV crashed into him.
He was badly injured and had to be taken to a hospital once the paramedics arrived. He was last said to be in critical condition. The police were also called, but they said that the Durango’s driver (an unnamed man) left before they arrived.
It’s not clear if this is considered a hit-and-run, but hopefully more information will be released later. Among the many injuries this young man suffered was a broken neck, the news said.

Commentary
Before anyone starts making snap judgments here about who was at fault, let me just remind my readers that just because a pedestrian is in the road doesn’t mean that cars have the inherent right to run into them. Even if a pedestrian is not in a crosswalk at the time, it still doesn’t mean that they have fewer rights. Granted, if a pedestrian is hit by a car, they may bear a significant portion of the responsibility, but that’s not a “given” by any means. Drivers are still responsible for paying attention to the road and making sure they have enough time to brake in case of an emergency. Most of the time, that means no speeding (obviously).
