From what’s been reported, it seems as if one of two things happened. Either the driver of the pickup truck just didn’t leave enough space between him and the Ford, so that when it slowed down he didn’t have time to slow as well. Or, the driver of the pickup wasn’t paying attention to the road and couldn’t stop because he wasn’t looking. The fact of the matter is, it doesn’t matter which one of those was actually the case. Both could have been avoided. If drivers pay a little more attention to what’s going on around them, travel at a safe speed and leave a little more distance between themselves and the vehicle ahead of them, they’re going to have a much easier time making sure accidents like this one don’t happen.
