Ashland, ME — A pickup truck and a smaller van were involved in a wreck on Tuesday of this week (June 30, 2015) near Ashland, resulting in a Baldwin resident have to be airlifted to a hospital for his injuries. He was identified as James Gaughan, 60 years old, and it appears that his van was hit by 32-year old Troy Theriault’s pickup truck along Route 11.
This happened at about 2:15 p.m. in the afternoon, in between Portage and Ashland.
Gaughan was driving his van along Route 11, headed north, while Theriault was driving his Ford pickup truck along a logging road. Coming to the intersection with Route 11, Theriault tried to pull onto the roadway, but failed to yield to Gaughan’s oncoming van.
The two vehicles collided and Gaughan was badly injured as a result. After the wreck, he was taken to a nearby hospital, though it doesn’t appear that Troy Theriault was hurt at all.
Right now, the police have interviewed Theriault and they say that he claims he didn’t see Gaughan in time to avoid the accident.
