Darlene Haskie Killed in Single-Vehicle Accident in Kingman, AZ

Kingman, AZ — A woman was killed and three people were injured in a single-vehicle accident that took place in Kingman, Arizona, on Tuesday, June 30, 2015. The accident took place on Stockton Hill Road, around 5:15 in the morning.

Local reports say that a Chevrolet Silverado rolled about six miles north of the town. Darlene Haskie, a passenger in the truck at the time, died in the crash.

Driver Deeschii’Nii Graymountain, as well as passengers Brenda Ayala-Alcantar and Tsosie Lanell, were all injured and taken to Kingman Regional Medical Center.

Reports say that the truck’s speed may have contributed to the crash. The truck had moved into the oncoming lane of traffic to pass a vehicle, and as it crested a small hill, found that it was in the path of a car. The truck swerved to avoid an accident, drove off an embankment and became airborne. It landed about 80 feet away and rolled nose-first.

The accident is currently being investigated.

The investigation into this accident is still ongoing, so I wouldn’t want to speculate too much. However, I can say that I’ve seen accidents like this in the past, and in many of those, it’s the driver who’s ultimately held responsible for any injuries sustained by a passenger. Drivers have a responsibility to drive in a safe manner while traveling together. If a driver does something unsafe, and that leads to their passengers being injured, then the driver can be held liable for that. Again, the investigation into this crash hasn’t been concluded. But in the past, this is how I’ve seen things handled.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
