Chicago bicyclist Mariel Mentink in an Austin TX hospital after vehicle hit and run
Chicago resident Mariel Mentink, 24, was visiting friends in Austin, TX for new years, and is now fighting for her life in the I.C.U. at Brackenridge Hospital. Early new years day, around 2:30 a.m., Mentink and a friend were riding their bicycles home from a biking social event, when Mentink was struck from behind. Cyclist and friend, Matt Johnson, who was with her at the time of the accident said that it happened so quick he was only able to see the taillights of the gray SUV or pick-up. Mariel Mentink was taken to the hospital with multiple injuries, including a broken vertebrae, multiple skull fractures, a fractured tibia and bruised lungs.
The most important thing right now is to find the one responsible for this hit-and-run bicycle accident, and get him off the streets before it happens again. Mariel Mentink was seriously injured due to the negligence of that driver. Damages including medical bills, lost future wages, possible life-long care, as well as numerous other possible financial burdens will be the unfortunate outcome of this tragic Austin, Texas accident injury. Until the vehicle's driver is found and a personal injury lawsuit is filed against him, the financial burden of this unfortunate accident will be on Mentink's family.

As a Texas attorney practicing for 20 years, I have litigated all manner of personal injury cases. I use this blog as a place to write opinion / editorial articles on a variety of topics that catch my interest and as a means of sharing news stories relevant to personal injury accidents. I think the overwhelming majority of people are unaware just how common these types of accidents are and I hope this blog raises awareness to rather serious public safety concerns. However, this blog is simply a means for me to share my opinions and I would recommend that anyone who is considering seeking legal counsel should contact their family attorney.
