Man loses hand in accident at DeSoto Parish natural gas well
Two employees of Bronco Oilfield Services were injured while performing equipment maintenance at a natural gas well in DeSoto Parish. 50-year-old Jesus Ortez remains hospitalized after losing his hand Tuesday night due to "pressure exerted by a valve." The other worker was treated and released for minor injuries. The two were working on a gas well operated by Chesapeake Operating at the time.
Losing a hand is a workplace injury that Ortez will have to deal with for a lifetime. There will, of course, be staggering medical bills waiting for him, as well as lifelong treatment ahead of him. He may very well lose his ability to work in the future.
