Two Hurt in Log Truck Accident at Loop 336 and FM 3083 in Conroe, Texas

CONROE, TX — Two people reported injuries following a serious accident involving a pickup truck and a log truck that happened in Conroe, Texas on Tuesday, June 2nd, 2015. Sources reporting out of the Houston area said that the accident happened sometime Tuesday afternoon.

Two people were hurt when a log truck and a pickup truck collided on Loop 336 near the intersection with FM 3083. Police with details of the accident investigation think that the tractor-trailer hauling logs suffered a tire blowout before weaving into a nearby pickup truck. The log truck drove off the road and rolled to one side in the accident. The pickup truck spun several times after the crash.

One person was taken to the hospital from the scene, and another was reported in stable condition.

Conroe Police were helping with the accident scene.

Commentary:

All the news seems to indicate that the accident started off with the log truck blowing a tire, which would lead many to believe that this accident was completely unavoidable and “freak” in nature, but I’d disagree wholeheartedly. First, I’d look to see how old the tire was. Was the tire brand new, or did the log truck company decide to stretch a buck and forgo replacing them until a later date? Was the tire rated for the speed the truck was traveling, and the weight that the truck was hauling? Was there a recall issued on the batch number on the tire? There are so many possibilities with tire blowout accidents, but none of them mean that the accident was completely unpreventable. If the trucking company failed to replace a tire that was worn down over a lifetime on the road then the trucking company could bear the fault in the accident. On the other hand, if the tire was brand new, but defective, then the tire manufacturer could take the lion’s share of the blame. All it would take to know for sure is some honest detective work. My instincts tell me that this accident could have been prevented.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
