Toccoa, GA — There was a wreck on Highway 123 in Toccoa that injured 17 people, possibly 18, this past Thursday night, May 28, 2015. Police said that a possibly drunk driver lost control on the highway that night and crashed into a church bus, leaving all 18 people on the bus with injuries.
This happened at about 8:30 p.m. that night and the driver who hit the bus was later identified as Ryan Bellamy, 31 years old, a local resident.
So far, not many details about what happened have been released, but the news has posted a few updates.
They said that Bellamy was driving his Lincoln Town Car south along Highway 123 that night when he lost control and swerved into the opposite lanes of traffic, hitting the oncoming church bus head-on.
The bus carried 18 people from Loves and Hugs Christian Tabernacle out of Conyers, and all of them had to be taken to hospitals for varying degrees of injuries. At the last update, only 16 had injuries that required medical treatment.
Bellamy, however, was seriously injured and had to be rushed to a hospital via medical helicopter. The police said that they think he may have been under the influence of alcohol and are considering charging him with DUI and driving on the wrong side of the road.
