Poughkeepsie, NY — Police said that 9 students aboard a Wappingers Central School District bus were injured along with three other people after their bus was in a wreck with a minivan and a car. This accident happened along Spackenkill Road at about 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday morning, May 27, 2015.
Police said that a Chevy Cavalier was driving east along Spackenkill Road this morning when it came upon a Chrysler minivan that had apparently stopped to make a left turn. The Cavalier’s driver didn’t realize this until it was too late and rear-ended the minivan.
The Cavalier then swerved into oncoming traffic, where it was hit by an oncoming Wappingers Central School District bus immediately.
The school bus flipped over and of the students aboard, 9 were injured and had to be taken to a hospital. The bus driver, the driver of the minivan, and the driver of the Cavalier all had to be taken to hospitals as well, but none of the injuries appeared to be life-threatening.
The Cavalier was being driven by a 21-year old Poughkeepsie woman. The school bus was being driven by a 48-year old Wappingers Falls woman. The Chrysler minivan was being driven by 41-year old Rosendale woman.
