Concord, NC — A man was hospitalized after being dragged nearly 100 feet by an SUV that was leaving the Charlotte Motor Speedway in Concord, North Carolina, on Monday, May 25, 2015. The accident took place near the tunnel exit of Gate 26, around 12:30 in the morning.
The man hurt in the accident was identified as Daniel Delk. Police say that Delk was sitting on the tow bar which was connecting a motor home to an SUV it was towing. Timothy Clontz, the driver of the motor home, turned to exit the speedway, and Delk fell beneath the SUV, which dragged him.
Clontz later told police that he wasn’t aware that anyone was sitting on the tow bar or that an accident had even occurred. When he heard of the incident, he called local authorities who questioned him and determined that he wasn’t impaired at the time. Police haven’t charged him.
Delk was taken to Carolinas Medical Center. Police say his injuries are not life-threatening.
