LAFAYETTE, IN — City Police have not mentioned how many kids were hurt in a carnival ride accident that happened in Lafayette, Indiana on Tuesday, May 26th, 2015. Reports out of Indianapolis said that the accident happened sometime Tuesday afternoon.
Right now, police believe an unspecified number of children were hurt when the “Motorcycle Jump” ride they were on malfunctioned. Police currently think that the bolts on the ride were not sufficiently tightened, and the motorcycles on the ride were thrown off their track.
Some children were taken to the hospital after the accident.
Local authorities are helping with the accident investigation at this time, and hope to release more information in the coming days.

Commentary:
I see two glaring problems with this accident in the news, and these really need to be talked about and explored further in order to hold the proper parties responsible for what happened. First off, the news mentioned specifically that the carnival was due for city inspection on Wednesday, but the accident happened on Tuesday, so the first question I’d have would have to be why were children even on this ride to begin with if the carnival was never even sanctioned to open it’s doors. Ultimately, at the time of the accident, the carnival had zero permission to operate, so the people that run the carnival are probably going to be finding themselves in hot water for this reason.
Secondly, the report mentioned that police believe the ride may not have been properly put together, and that bolts may have been loose. If this turns out to be true, then the people that run the operation are probably looking at a basketful of more difficult questions to answer. Ultimately, there is a lot that went wrong in this accident, and somebody in the chain of events made the decision to put kids on a potentially dangerous ride without the proper authorization from local officials. These people are probably going to have a very tough time trying to answer for this accident.
