Woman Collides With School Bus, Hospitalized in Durham, NH, Crash

Durham, NH — A woman was hospitalized after an accident with an Oyster River District school bus in Durham, New Hampshire, on Friday, May 22, 2015. The accident happened at the intersection of Route 108 and Durham Point Road, around 8:15 in the morning.

The crash was between the school bus and a Toyota Prius. Witnesses to the accident said that the Prius was headed south and drifted into the northbound lane, directly in front of the school bus. While they say that it didn’t seem as if the woman was watching the road, that hasn’t been confirmed.

The woman was taken to a local hospital for her injuries. Her name hasn’t been released. Officials say that she, as well as the bus driver, will have their blood drawn. This is a typical procedure following accidents like this.

Reports say that eleven students were on the bus at the time of the crash. One of those suffered a minor injury. It’s not clear if he was treated at the scene, or taken to a hospital.

Police are currently investigating the accident.

I wish we knew a little more about what happened here. I know a lot of people might look at this accident and immediately blame the driver, but I’d like to give her the benefit of the doubt and figure out exactly what happened before making up my mind. Obviously, big, yellow school buses are a little hard to miss, so you would hope there would have been a reason for an accident like this, something that actually caused it. Luckily, everyone involved seems to be okay. Anytime you have a crash with a school bus involved, things can very easily turn out much worse.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
