Milwaukee County, WI — Three people were injured in a car accident that police believe may have been caused by a drunk driver. The accident took place on Interstate 43, on Monday, May 18, 2015.
Reports offer few details on what happened, saying only that the driver lost control and rolled a Ford Explorer. Three men were inside at the time and were injured. Officials say the driver wasn’t wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle. He suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to Froedtert Hospital.
One of the passengers left the scene on feet, and was picked up by police a short time later. The names of the men haven’t been released.
The accident is currently under investigation. Police found a bottle of tequila at the scene and believe the driver may have been drunk at the time.

Obviously, if the driver was drunk at the time of the accident, he can be held liable for the crash, and could potentially be facing claims from both of his passengers. Drivers owe their passengers a certain duty of care and if the driver was intoxicated when he got behind the wheel of his vehicle, he obviously breached that duty. That showed a huge disregard for the people in his vehicle, and the others he was sharing the road with. For that, he should be held responsible.
