Holton, Kansas — There was a serious wreck between a Ford Escort sedan and a semi-truck in rural Holton this past Monday, May 4, 2015. Officers with the Kansas Highway Patrol identified Ronnie Marn, 60, and Tyrone Mitchell, 39, as the two men in the Ford Escort who were injured. This happened around 7:45 a.m. on Monday morning, a few miles north of Holton.
According to the KHP’s reports, the accident happened when the Ford Escot allegedly swerved into oncoming traffic and hit a semi-truck head-on. Marn and Mitchell were both passengers in the Ford Escort and the driver was later identified as Daryl Merryfield, 57 years old.
Merryfield was apparently driving south along U.S. 75 that morning when he apparently lost control and veered across the center lines, just north of the Holton Community Hospital. The Ford Escort then crashed into 59-year old Michael Polzkill’s northbound semi-truck.
The collision that followed injured both Tyrone Mitchell and Ronnie Marn, though it was believed that Marn’s injuries weren’t very serious.
The truck driver, Polzkill, wasn’t harmed and neither was the Ford Escort’s driver, Merryfield. So far, it’s not clear why Merryfield didn’t maintain his lane that morning.
