Houston, TX — While an SUV was trying to tow a car on the Sam Houston Parkway this past Wednesday night, April 29, the towing strap accidentally broke and caused two separate accidents. A total of five people were injured in the accidents, including a security guard who was taken to a hospital in serious condition.
The accident happened around 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday, near Sharmon Road. A man and a woman were using Ford Expedition to tow away a disabled car on the Sam Houston Parkway when one of the towing straps accidentally broke in two.
The car fell to the ground and the man was pinned while trying to fix the strap. A nearby security guard came over to offer some assistance. As this happened, a second car along the road and failed to avoid the scene, hitting the disabled car from behind.
It looks like the disabled car was then pushed forward, where it struck the security guard and seriously injured him. The man under the disasbled car was also injured, as well as a woman and a child standing nearby the disabled car.
Right now, it’s not clear if the driver of the car that failed to stop in time would be charged with anything. The man and woman trying to tow the disabled car, however, were cited for illegally towing. More information will hopefully be released later.
