De Soto, MO — A MODOT truck was involved in an accident along Highway H at the beginning of this year which left two people from De Soto with major injuries. The victims were identified as 41-year old Lisa Smith and 47-year old Rodley Smith.
According to the news reports and the Highway Patrol’s reports, the accident happened on January 9, 2015 at about 10:30 a.m. in the morning, several miles west of De Soto.
A MODOT truck had been treating Highway H that morning for cold weather and was working in the eastbound lanes at the time of the accident. Both Rodley and Lisa Smith were in their Nissan Maxima, driving west along Highway H. As they came upon a curve in the road near Mammoth Rd., they tried to navigate it, but lost traction on the treatment the MODOT truck had put down.
The Smith’s Nissan swerved into oncoming traffic, where it was hit by the MODOT truck and sent into a ditch nearby. Both Lisa and Rodley were seriously injured and had to be taken to a Jefferson Hospital by helicopter and ambulance, respectively.
So far, it’s not clear if any further investigation needed to be done.
