UPDATE: Jesus Garcia-Moreno Hurt in Accident with Semi Truck Outside Blackfoot, Idaho

BLACKFOOT, ID — State Police have identified Jesus Garcia-Moreno as the driver that was hurt in an accident with a semi-truck hauling potatoes just outside Blackfoot, Idaho on Friday, April 24th, 2015. News reports said that the accident happened sometime Friday evening.

55-year-old Jesus Garcia-Moreno was hurt when the Nissan he was driving was hit by a semi-truck that was transporting potatoes while driving on Interstate 15. Police believe the tractor-trailer tried to pass the slow moving Nissan when it clipped the passenger side of the vehicle. The potato truck tipped as a result of the collision.

Garcia-Moreno was taken by EMS to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center where he was being treated for his injuries.

The driver of the potato truck was identified as 60-year-old Brad Ralphs, who was unharmed in the crash.

Idaho Transportation Department officials are investigating the accident at this time.

Commentary:

News reports have said that the driver was trying to pass a slow moving driver, who may have been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. Now, a lot of people are going to focus on the alcohol aspect, but I’m more concerned with the fact that a semi-truck rear ended a driver on the road. Why? Because alcohol probably didn’t have anything to do with the truck hitting the car. Had it been the other way around, we may be having a different conversation. However, the alcohol does not take away from the fact that a trained, professional tractor-trailer driver hit a vehicle when it wasn’t moving fast enough to his liking. While the trucking company may have their scapegoat in mind with an alleged drunk driver, it probably doesn’t change the fact that their driver bears at least some portion of the responsibility in this accident.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
