I have to say that it seems like I’m seeing more and more accidents just like this one, and I really don’t understand why. Why aren’t more contractors investing in safety gear for their workers. It’s not as if someone falling from the roof of a construction site is something that’s just impossible to anticipate. Like I said, this sort of thing happens all the time.
So what’s the problem? Are the costs just too much for these companies to bear? Or is working only 20 feet in the air what they would call an acceptable risk? Whatever the reason, I’d like to see a bit of reform in this area over the next few years. A lot of construction workers are getting a raw deal here. I don’t think asking for some sort of reasonable assurance that you’re not going to be critically injured while trying to earn a living is asking too much.
