UPDATE: Daniel Lindgren Injured in Tractor-Trailer Accident in St Johns County, Florida

ST JOHNS COUNTY, FL — Danny Lindgren was identified by the Florida Highway Patrol as the man that was seriously hurt following a tractor-trailer accident that happened in St Johns County, Florida on Wednesday, April 8th, 2015. News reports out of Jacksonville said that the accident happened around 12:45 Wednesday morning.

63-year-old Daniel Lindgren was taken to the hospital after an SUV, a pickup truck, and a tractor-trailer were involved in a chain reaction accident that happened on Interstate 95 in the southbound lanes. Reports said that Lindgren’s SUV struck a broken down pickup truck before both vehicles were hit by a tractor-trailer, which caused the tractor-trailer to jackknife.

Lindgren was taken by helicopter to University of Florida Health where he was being treated for unspecified injuries.

The investigation is ongoing at this time.

Commentary:

The news said that the SUV and the pickup truck collided before the tractor-trailer came upon the scene and struck both vehicles. Now, this makes me wonder how much time passed between the collisions. Why? Because the more time that had passed between the collision between the SUV and the pickup truck, the more liable the trucking company is probably going to be. Why? Because hitting two stationary, disabled vehicles in the road is a pretty different ball game than being the third-in-line in a chain reaction event. If the tractor-trailer had plenty of time to react, or avoid the collision in any way, shape, or form, then the trucking company is probably going to be awarded with a huge chunk of the fault in the accident. On the other hand, if the truck was simply the last link in the chain, then the fault will probably be divvied up a little more evenly, but again, it all depends on a number of details that aren’t in the news right now, so if anybody has any more clues, I’d be interested in learning what they know.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
