Milton Squires Injured in Tractor-Trailer Accident on Highway 412 in Rogers County, OK

Rogers County, OK — Police identified Milton Squires as the man who was hospitalized in a tractor-trailer accident in Rogers County, Oklahoma, on Monday, March 30, 2015. The accident took place on Highway 412, around 4:00 in the morning.

Police say that a box truck suffering engine problems pulled over onto the side of the highway near the Verdigris Bridge. Squires, the driver of a Volvo tractor-trailer, crashed into the box truck, which was being driven by 38-year old Michael Harvey.

Emergency workers had to extricate Squires from his vehicle. He was then transported to a hospital in Tulsa where he was listed in stable condition.

The accident is currently being investigated. Sources within the Oklahoma Highway Patrol say that Squires was distracted just before colliding with Harvey’s truck.

I’d be interested in learning a little more about this accident. Reports say that Harvey’s vehicle was pulled over on the side of the road. Had he displayed the appropriate signage? How long had he been there? What were the nature of his engine problems? I’ve seen several accidents recently in which a truck is pulled over the side of the road when they’re not supposed to be, they don’t have the required signage posted, and someone crashes into them. Displaying those warning signs isn’t a suggestion. Drivers are required to do it. And if they don’t, then it’s possible that at least some of the liability for an accident can fall on their shoulders.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
