Bath, SD — There was a collision between a minivan and a semi-truck along Highway 12 in Bath, SD this past Friday. Police said that 80-year old Claremont resident Anna Bailey and her passenger in the minivan were both injured and taken to a hospital after they collided with a semi-truck that may have turned in front of them.
This happened on Friday afternoon, March 6, 2015 at Highway 12 and 396th Avenue. Police said that a semi-truck driver was headed west along Highway 12 that day while Anna Bailey and her passenger were driving behind him.
As the semi-truck neared 396th Avenue, the semi-truck tried to make a right-hand turn and Bailey’s minivan somehow collided with the trailer. The minivan was stuck underneath the trailer and both Bailey and her passenger were taken to a hospital. Police said that the semi-truck driver here, 20-year old Bryce Winther, was charged with failure yield in connection to the wreck.

Commentary:
There isn’t a lot of information about this truck driver available, but that’s probably because he’s so young. Since age may be a factor here, I would definitely want to check out his driving record and see 1) if he’s qualified to drive a commercial truck, 2) who he was working for at the time and 3) what his driving record was like before this accident. If he really did fail to yield, then whoever was injured as a result of his negligence would have a claim against him and possibly the company he worked for as well.
