Eaton, OH — The driver of a semi-trailer was hospitalized after his truck rolled over in Eaton, Ohio, on Monday, February 23, 2015. The accident took place in the 300 block of West Main Street, near the intersection with West Main Street.
Police believe that the truck hauling a load of soybeans crashed because the driver was traveling too fast and did not stop come to a full stop while trying to make a turn. The man, identified only as a 55-year old driver for Taylor Distributing Co., suffered cuts to his head and face and was taken to Reid Medical Center.
Reports say that four tow trucks were needed to right the vehicle after it rolled over.
Police say that the man will likely be cited for the accident. No other injuries were reported.

Commentary
Officials say this accident may have been caused because the driver was traveling too fast. That may be. But there are other reasons accidents like this happen. Unfortunately, semi-trucks just aren’t that safe. Often, the cargo they’re carrying can become unbalanced if not secured properly, and cause a truck to roll over while it’s out on the road. While an accident like that will very likely be handled through an employer’s workers’ comp policy, it’s also possible that a third party was responsible for the loading of the cargo. Because workers’ comp doesn’t cover third party liability, they would be open to having a claim filed against them.
