Bloomfield, NY — The driver of a tractor-trailer was hospitalized after crashing his rig while trying to avoid an accident in Bloomfield, New York, on Wednesday, February 25, 2015. The accident took place on Route 5, at the turn in to Crosman Corp.
Joseph Bowden was traveling along Route 5 when another vehicle being driven by Robert Devore turned out of the Crosman entrance and into the path of his truck. Bowden swerved to avoid a collision, but crashed into a guardrail and a telephone pole before driving his truck down an embankment, where it tipped over onto its side.
Bowden was trapped inside the truck and had to be extricated by emergency workers. He was then taken to Strong Memorial Hospital by medical helicopter for the treatment of his injuries.
Bowden’s truck struck Devore’s when it swerved, but Devore was not injured in the accident.
Police are continuing to investigate.
