Commentary

This isn’t the first time the driver of the box truck has had problems obeying traffic signs. He’s been cited in the past for driving 25 miles above the speed limit, as well as obedience to traffic-control devices. So he’s run into trouble with this sort of things a few times in the past, spread over a few years. And these are just the instances of when he was caught and help responsible for it. If this is behavior he clearly hasn’t learned his lesson with, I have to wonder he’s out there doing stuff like this and not getting caught. How long is it going to be until he does some serious damage?

You know, truck drivers aren’t always the only ones to blame in these situations. Often, they continue to behave in this manner because the company they work for isn’t taking the steps necessary to discipline them, or otherwise show that this sort of behavior in unacceptable. So while the driver here definitely has some questions to answer, I’d say that his employer does as well.

I'm a former employee. I had brought up this exact scenario and suggested a maintenance procedure that would eliminate the possibility of this type injury. Obviously my warning went unheeded.

I was actually a couple cars back from this wreck, one of the first on the scene, and helped administer CPR on the victims. The truck driver was going way too fast, but it was actually his trailer that swung around and hit the suv, the semi-truck ended in the median.

A lot of people say smack about lawyers, but I want to say that I'm glad there is a way that people who are wronged by corporate neglect can get justice and force change. We are living in a world where corporations and govt care less than ever about common people, and I support your work. I hope I will never need your services.

Thank you for posting these accident articles on your site. At the company that I work for, e deal with monitoring construction activity and work around trenches and all sorts of construction equipment/vehicles. I sometimes wonder if construction companies have enough safety training to inform employees of how to protect themselves while on the job.
