Florence, MS — There was a fatal accident reported this past Thursday (February 5, 2015) in the Florence area of Rankin County that involved a woman’s silver Honda SUV and a school bus. Police said later that the woman driving the SUV, 66-year old Randy B. Polk, was killed in the accident.
This happened at about 3:40 p.m. yesterday afternoon, in east Florence. Apparently, Polk was driving her Honda SUV near the intersection of Star Road and Jerusalem Church Road when she collided head-on with an oncoming school bus.
Police said that it was possible Polk had been accidentally driving on the wrong side of the road, but they’re still investigating. The school bus was empty at the time, except for the driver, who was taken to a hospital for unknown injuries. Mrs. Polk, however, passed away at the scene.
This is still being investigated, police said, and more details will be released later. The school bus appeared to belong to Rankin County Independent School District.
