Commentary
If the driver responsible for the accident was drunk at the time, I have to wonder if he was perhaps drinking at a bar before the accident happened. Maybe he had stopped to have a couple of drinks on the way home. The reason something like this would be important is because Michigan law says that bars aren’t allowed to serve alcohol to someone who’s visibly intoxicated. Why is that? Well, getting a drunk person even more drunk only increases the likelihood that they’re going to go out and get into an accident. If a bar over-serves a customer, and then that customer goes out and hurts someone, the bar has played a role in that. And just like the driver, they should be held responsible. If every bar responsible for accidents like this was actually held accountable, we’d eventually see the number of accidents like this drop.
