Commentary:
I’ve studied and litigated my fair share of hit and run accidents in my history, and I can tell you that people run after accidents for two main reasons. In one corner, we have people who are gripped by an overwhelming sense of fear and panic. After all, its not everyday people are involved in rollover accidents, which can be very disorienting and scary, especially when you’re convinced you’ve hurt or killed somebody. However, these people usually return to the scene shortly after the accident. On the other hand, the other corner usually contains people who have a reason to avoid contact with law enforcement. These could be drunk drivers, or people with active warrants for their arrest.
Luckily, with witnesses and a vehicle left behind, finding the driver shouldn’t be terribly difficult. At that point, finding out why they ran needs to be high on the list of things to do. If they were drinking at a bar before the accident, all it would take to find out is a look at bank statements and security footage to find out how much they had to drink, and if a bar got them drunk, the bar and the driver can be punished together, as they should be.
