Syracuse, NY — A car and an 18-wheeler collided in Syracuse this past Friday morning, leaving 17-year old Christopher Cole and 20-year old Kirk Anderson with injuries. Police said that this happened around 9:30 a.m. on Friday morning, January 16, 2015.
Kirk Anderson was reportedly driving a Ford Taurus (with Cole as a passenger) along I-690 that morning when they exited at Jones Road. The exit ramp from I-680 intersects with Jones Road, as you can see on the map below.
After the young men had exited the interstate, they pulled across the intersection with Jones Road and crashed into the trailer of an eastbound 18-wheeler truck. The accident left Anderson’s Ford Taurus with significant damage, though both Anderson and Cole suffered only non-serious injuries.
The truck driver, 25-year old Clint Lusich, wasn’t harmed at all in the accident. According to the news reports, the trailer Lusich was hauling had been empty that morning, which made the Ford’s impact with it less severe than it could have been.
Right now, police believe that icy roads were a factor here and that Anderson wasn’t able to stop at his stop sign due to slick roads.
