Worker falls into well on July 22, 2008 near Cresson, TX.

On July 22, 2008 a worker for Chesapeake Energy fell into a gas well where he remained trapped for several hours. The accident occurred on Highway 171 between the towns of Cresson and Godley, TX. The worker reportedly fell into a vertical shaft-like well known as a "rat hole". The man fell approximately 60 feet and was trapped in the shaft upside down for close to three hours. Additionally the well may have been filled with noxious fumes from the nearby gas supply.

Rescue workers were able to successfully recover him from the tunnel by lowering a resuce worker down into the hole and hoisting both men out. The injured worker was transported by helicopter to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, TX.
