Commentary
I can conceive of an accident in which the driver of an 18-wheeler hits pedestrian and doesn’t realize, and so leaves the scene of the accident. I can’t really think of one in which the 18-wheeler crashes into a car on the highway and the driver doesn’t realize it. To understand accidents like this, you have to ask why a driver who flees the scene would do what they’ve done. After an accident, the authorities are going to get involved, and often, a driver responsible for an accident has things he doesn’t want the authorities to see. So we’re left with a few options here. The first is that the driver has something to hide. The second is that the driver just wasn’t paying attention to the road. For the driver, and the trucking company employing them, neither option is very good, and is really going to help the fact that they’ll be held responsible for the accident. If anything, something like fleeing the scene of an accident is going to make the trucking company look even worse. Hopefully the company involved in this accident is found, because they need to be held responsible. This is behavior that simply can’t be allowed.
