Pala, CA — This past Sunday, a woman was killed and two others were badly injured in the Pala area after a two-car accident that may result in drunk driving charges being filed against one of the drivers. Police said that Margarita Rodriguez, 50, was killed on Sunday, December 14, after the car she was in crashed.
The CHP stated that 41-yea old Mirella Trevino was headed east along Highway 76 last Sunday morning at about 6:00 a.m., carrying Rodriguez as a passenger. Several miles east of Pala, Trevino lost control of her car near Bodie Boulevard and swerved into the opposite lanes of traffic, where she collided head0-on with a Mazda Protege.
The impact killed Margarita Rodriguez immediately while the Mazda’s driver (35-year old Vista man) and passenger (21-year old Valley Center woman) were both taken to a hospital with serious injuries. The CHP said that Trevino was also taken to a hospital for her own injuries, but that she also faces felony DUI charges, since they suspect that she was under the influence.
