Newtown, NJ — A driver was arrested for drunk driving and several other charges after a serious two-car accident this past Sunday injured two brothers: Logan Cates, 18, and Devin Cates, 25.
The accident happened in Newton along Woodside Avenue, police said. Both Logan and Devin Cates were in a Hyundai Accent that was headed north along Woodside Avenue last Sunday morning (December 14, 2014) around 2:21 a.m. Logan was the driver and Devin was the passenger.
As they neared the turnoff at Main Street, the Cates’ Hyundai was suddenly hit head-on by a southbound Cadillac sedan that had lost control and veered into oncoming traffic. The accident injured both Logan and Devin Cates, and police said that Logan was partially thrown through the front windshield of the Hyundai.
The driver of the Cadillac was identified as Luciano Sarmiento, 29, and police later determined that hew was under the influence. He has since been arrested and charged with other offenses, such as assault with auto while driving recklessly.
