Wolfforth, TX — A student attending Frenship High School was hospitalized after being hit by a truck outside the school in Wolfforth, Texas, on Wednesday, December 17, 2014. The accident took place around 7:15 in the morning.
The student — a 17-year old girl — was taken to University Medical Center after being hit by a Ford F-150. Her name has not been released.
Reports say the girl was attempting to cross the street when the accident happened. They go on to say that she was using a crosswalk at the time.
The girl sustained serious injuries. There’s been no update on her current condition.
The name of the man who hit the student has not been named. Police say that he did stop and wait for authorities following the accident. The crash is currently under investigation.

Often, accidents like this will come down to a matter of timing. If a pedestrian is using a crosswalk when they were supposed to be using a crosswalk, then that’s on the driver for not paying enough attention to the road. He can and should be found at-fault for the accident. However, even a pedestrian crossing outside a crosswalk, or crossing when they shouldn’t doesn’t give a driver free reign to crash into them. How much time did the driver have to react here? Was he paying attention to the road? If not, why? How fast was he going? The answers to those questions are going to shape how this accident is handled going forward.
