Lithia, FL — A man from Ruskin who died and a young Ruskin teen who was injured were among those involved in a three-car accident outside Lithia this past Saturday, December 13, 2014. Police said that Lloyd Worth, 44, was killed while his passenger, 14-year old Carl Worth, was badly injured in the accident.
It happened at about 7:00 p.m. in the evening last Saturday, along Highway 39. Carl and Lloyd Worth were both in a Chevrolet Impala, headed north that evening.
They were driving behind a Honda Civic (driven by Irma Busi and carrying Maria Lozada and Santiago Morales) when a Ford van headed in the opposite direction suddenly lost control and veered into their lane of traffic on Highway 39.
The van crashed head-on into the Honda Civic, which caused the Worth’s Impala to hit the Honda as well. The accident killed Lloyd Worth and the van’s driver, Todd Smith, 23.
Carl Worth was critically injured and airlifted to a hospital in Tampa, while Irma Busi, Maria Lozada, and Santiago Morales were all taken to a hospital to be treated for less-serious injuries. Right now, police think alcohol might be a factor in why Todd Smith lost control of the van, but that’s still under investigation.
